Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi University women's basketball team snapped its four game winless streak with a 73-62 win over Le Moyne in Northeast-10 Conference play at the Center for Recreation and Sport on Saturday. The Panthers powered through with a 45-point effort in the second half, shooting 51.6 percent from the field and 54.5 percent from 3-point land. With the win, Adelphi improves to 3-6 overall and 2-5 in NE-10 play, while Le Moyne falls to 1-7 and 0-7 in league.

Adelphi's second half surge was powered by four players who finished with double figures in points. Sade Jackson led all players with 14, Jessica Kitrys dropped in 13, Amanda Campusano scored 12 and Kara Tancredi rounded out the bunch with 11 points and seven rebounds. Between Jackson, Campusano, Tancredi and Samantha Perez, the Panther bench outscored the Dolphin bench 27-12.

For Le Moyne, Maddy McKnight had a team-best 13 points and swished 3-of-4 3-pointers, Raven Short scored 12 points and Katie Hart grabbed nine rebounds and made all six of her free throws to finish with 10 points.

The contest began as a back-and-forth battle with neither team holding more than a two-possession lead the entire half. The Panthers led by as many as four points (16-12) midway through the half and the Dolphins climbed out to a five point lead with five minutes to play, but Shannon Flynn knocked down a 3-pointer and Kitrys hit a free throw in the final two minutes to help Adelphi hold a 28-27 lead after the first half.

The second half would see four ties and six lead changes thanks to clutch long range shooting by both squads. McKnight hit a trey to give Le Moyne its first lead of the half at the 17:13 mark, but Tancredi answered with a 3-pointer of her own to make it 37-36 Adelphi. Le Moyne's Emma Cronk swung the lead yet again with a layup to put her team up by a point, but the Panthers quickly caught fire and used a 10-0 run to shift the score to 53-44 in favor of the hosts. Perez sparked the Adelphi offense to life with a 3-pointer, then put pressure on the Le Moyne defense with her quick ball handling in transistion. Perez dished out an assist on a Tancredi layup, then Jackson found Flynn open on the wing for a wide open 3-pointer to give the Panthers a seven point cushion.

The Panthers claimed their first double digit lead of the day on a 3-ball by Kelly Mannix that gave Adelphi a 58-47 advantage with 7:46 to play. Le Moyne refused to go down quietly, but every time the Dolphins snuck back into the game, a Panther answered with a timely basket to keep the visitors at bay. Hart nailed a jumper at the 6:01 mark to bring Le Moyne within six points, but Jackson flushed a step-back 3-pointer from straight away on the next possession. In similar fashion, Emily Bayly knocked down a trey for the Dolphins to make it a five point game with 3:32 to go, but Campusano countered with another shot from downtown to sink Le Moyne's hopes of a comeback. Back-to-back free throws from Campusano in the final minute iced the game and gave Adelphi a 73-62 victory.

Adelphi returns to action with a pair of non-conference home games next week. The Panthers host Queens College on Wednesday at 7 p.m. followed by Eckered College on Sunday at 2:30 p.m.
