Garden City, N.Y. -
The Adelphi University basketball team played host to Northeast-10 rival AIC on Sunday, November 27 in the Center for Recreation and Sports. The Panthers dropped the conference contest, 52-45, unable to overcome the Yellowjackets, 48-34, rebounding edge. With the loss Adelphi falls to 2-3 overall and 1-2 in the NE-10, while AIC improves to 2-5 overall and 1-2 in conference play.

Jessica Kitrys was the lone Panther in double figures with 10 points, while Kelly Mannix, Sade Jackson and Samantha Milhaven added eight each. Mannix and Kitrys joined Marielle Duryea with a team leading six rebounds each and Duryea added four steals as well.

AIC opened the game on a 10-4 run, getting four points from Rhea Pascal and pushed their lead to seven, 17-10, midway through the first half on a three-pointer from Michelle Lafond. However, a Milhaven lay-up sparked a 15-3 Adelphi run that was capeed by a Kara Tancredi lay-up, that put the Panther in front, 25-20 with 4:20 to play in the first frame.

The Yellowjackets responded with a 6-2 rush to take a one points lead, 26-25, but a Mannix triple with 37 ticks left in the half gave the Panthers a two point cushion heading into the half, 28-26.

The second half saw AIC come out of the locker room hot, using a 14-3 run, that spanned the first seven minutes of action, to take their largest lead of the game, 40-31 on a Sarah Noble lay-up. AIC's lead would swell to as large as 12 points, 46-34, with 10:03 left in the second, but a Mannix bucket sent the Brown and Gold on a 11-4 tear that pulled the Panthers to within five, 50-45 with 2:47 on the clock.

Unfortunately, that was as close as Adelphi would get as both teams turned up the defense, combining for just two points the rest of the way, as AIC came out on top, 52-45.

Adelphi returns to action on Wednesday, November 30 when they play host to upstate New York rival, St. Rose at 5:30 pm in the Center for Recreation and Sports.
