West Haven, Conn. - The Adelphi University women's basketball team earned its first Northeast-10 Conference win of the season with a 62-56 win at the University of New Haven on Tuesday night. The Panthers led by as many as 12 points early in the second half, and bounced back after surrendering the lead with 12 minutes to play to improve to 2-2 overall and 1-1 in NE-10 play. The Chargers remain winless at 0-4 overall and 0-2 in league action.

For Adelphi, sophomore Shannon Flynn and freshman Kelly Mannix each drilled a pair of 3-pointers and shared a team-best 12 points on the evening. Flynn dropped 10 points in the second half, hitting back-to-back treys that put the Panthers up by eight and kept New Haven at bay midway through the second half. Mannix, who grabbed eight rebounds, hit some key shots of her own, including two free throws and a swish from downtown that put Adelphi up by 12 to open the second half.

Sade Jackson added 11 points for the Panthers on 5-of-6 shooting and dished out a game-high four assists.

For New Haven, Anh-Dao Tran led the offense with 13 points, while Bria Moore and Monica Schacker scored 11 and 10 points, respectively.

Adelphi shot a sharp 42.9 percent from the field in the first half and used a 7-0 run to close the period with a healthy 32-23 lead. Mannix hit a pair of free throws and nailed a 3-pointer to open up the lead to 12 to begin the second half, but the Chargers surged back and tied the game at 40-40 on the 3-pointer by Elizabeth Cruso with 12:23 to play. The Panthers quickly regrouped, however, and claimed the lead for good on a Kara Tancredi layup with just under 10 minutes to play.
