The Adelphi University volleyball team played host to former ECC rival the University of Bridgeport tonight in a NCAA northeast regional contest. The Panthers took the first two games, 25-21 and 25-23, but could not close out the contest, falling 25-23, 25-22 and 15-12 in the final three games. WIth the loss Adelphi falls to 11-5 overall, while Bridgeport improves to 10-3.
Samantha Rico led four Panthers in double digit kills with 15, while 
Emily Dorko, 
Haley Blunt and 
Patawe Simms added 13, 12 and 11 kills respectively. 
Katie Bryson collected a game-high 51 set assists, while 
Bianca Hernandez led five players with double figures digs with 28 and 
Alexandra Kahen had 19, 
Bree Popham added 13, Dorko chipped in 12 and Bryson had 10.
The Panthers had the better of the play in the first two games, posting higher attack percentages, .140-.095 and .167-.091 and registering more kills, 17-9 amd 15-13, which resulted in two Adelphi wins, 25-21 and 25-23. The Brown and Gold out killed Bridgeport for the third straight game, 16-11 but committed more attack errors, 10-5, which turned the game in the Purple Knights favor, 25-23.
The fourth game saw Bridgeport take a 6-3 lead in an effort to close out Adelphi early, but the Panthers battled back, knotting the action at 10 and taking a 15-11 lead on a Kahen service ace. However, the Purple Knights responded with five of the next six points ot tie the action at 16 and kept the pressure on, pulling out a 25-22 victory and forcing game five.
Bridgeport pulled out to a 5-1 lead and lead 8-4 as the team's switched sides. But, the Panthers would go on a 6-1 run to take their first lead since, 1-0 at 10-9. The score would remain close down the stretch as a 
Colleen Raga kill knotted the action at 12, but Bridgeport would score the final three points of the game to take a 15-12 game victory and the match, 3-2.
Adelphi returns to action on Friday, October 14 when they play host to NE-10 rival UMass-Lowell at 7:00 pm in the Center for Recreation and Sports.
