Garden City, N.Y. – In an incredibly successful year for Adelphi Athletics in 2025-26, the Adelphi University Department of Athletics had plenty of qualified candidates for its Athletes of the Year awards. Honored at the department's End of Year Awards Ceremony on May 4 were standouts Kyle Lewis of men's lacrosse and Macarty McQueen of volleyball.
Lewis wraps up his collegiate career as one of the most decorated athletes to come from the men's lacrosse program. A two-time national champion, the Franklin Square native was named the Northeast 10 Player of the Year, the USA Lacrosse Preseason Player of the Year, the USA Lacrosse Midfielder of the Year and a First Team All-American by both USA Lacrosse and the USILA during his senior season.
Tallying 63 points with 35 goals and 28 assists, Lewis led the Adelphi men's lacrosse team to its third consecutive NE10 Championship title and a third straight trip to the national championship game, falling just short of the title in overtime. He was the lone Division II player drafted into the PLL in April.
"These past four years have hands down been the best years of my life, and that is because of you guys," Lewis remarked. "To all the athletes sitting in front of me right now, I'm glad I've been able to form relationships with most of you, and it's been a pleasure to watch your journeys here at Adelphi. Thank you to everyone in this room for giving me an unforgettable experience and helping me grow into the man I am today. I appreciate you all. Go Panthers."
McQueen ended her collegiate career on a high note as well, turning in her best season. Setting career highs in kills (443), kills per set (3.99), hitting percentage (.309) and points (492.5), the Carmel, Indiana, native was named the NE10 Player of the Year, the AVCA East Region Player of the Year and the NE10 Volleyball Sport Excellence Award winner.
The senior earned First Team All-Conference and All-Region honors and was tapped as an AVCA All-America Honorable Mention for the third straight season. McQueen set the Adelphi single-match kills record with 29 against Post on Sept. 6. She ended her career with 1,371 kills.
"First, I would like to thank my teammates. This past season with this group of girls was something extremely special," McQueen said. "Never had I been a part of a team that felt more like a family than this group. Thank you for having my back through the lows, cheering me on during my highs and pushing me every single day.... As a senior playing in your last season, you try to appreciate every little moment before you know the inevitable will happen, which is your last time playing in a college game. In my 12 years of playing volleyball, you guys made my last year worthwhile..."
