Garden City, N.Y. – Coming off two highly successful seasons, Katarina Liedbeck of the women's tennis team and Jack Coyne of the men's cross country/track and field teams were named the Adelphi Female and Male Scholar-Athletes of the Year, respectively, at the End of the Year Awards Ceremony on May 5.

The titles of Male and Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year are annually bestowed upon two deserving Adelphi student-athletes of any class level who excel in the classroom and are leaders for their team on the field of play. Nominated by the coaching staff and voted on by full-time staff members of the department, this is the second consecutive year that Liedbeck has earned the female trophy.

A part of the team that compiled the highest team GPA in the department this past year, Liedbeck was named the Northeast 10 Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year, the NE10 Vern Cox Player of the Year and the ITA/Dunlop East Region Senior Player of the Year. Liedbeck was named a CSC Academic All-American for the third consecutive year and was an ITA East Region Doubles Champion in the fall with partner Roisin Boyd. She helped lead the team to an NE10 Championship and the program's first-ever trip to the NCAA Sweet Sixteen.

Liedbeck's regional doubles ranking was No. q, and her national ranking with Boyd reached as high as No. 8 in March. The Sweden native excelled in singles play as the team's No. 1, reaching a career-high national ranking of No. 38. Off the court, Liedbeck is a member of the Adelphi Fellows Leadership Program, a tutor at the Center for Academic Enrichment and Sports and the community service representative for the women's tennis team.

Liedbeck graduated this spring with a 3.98 cumulative GPA in computer science on the software engineering track with a minor in mathematics. She plans to pursue her master's at Adelphi in software engineering before looking for work in web development, database creation or sports analytics research.

Helping the men's track and field program to its highest Northeast 10 Indoor and Outdoor Championship point totals ever, Coyne was part of the bronze medal-winning 4x800 relay team at the Outdoor Championships. He earned a seventh-place individual finish in the 800-meter event and, throughout the season, posted personal bests in the 400-, 600- and 800-meter runs.

At the Indoor Championships, the Lynbrook native was a two-time medalist, earning bronze in the 800 and silver in the distance medley relay. Coyne was named to the CSC Academic All-District Team while also earning NE10 Academic All-Conference honors.

Boasting a 3.98 GPA as a junior, Coyne will graduate in the fall of 2026 with a degree in exercise science.
