Garden City, N.Y. – In her first season wearing the Brown and Gold, the women's bowling team's Marissa Funk shined as she was named this year's Adelphi Female Rookie of the Year at the athletic department's end-of-year awards ceremony in May.
Funk put together one of the best freshman seasons in Adelphi bowling history, breaking the program's rookie record with an impressive 191.4 average.
A native of Boardman, Ohio, Funk made an immediate impact, being named to the NJ Open All-Tournament Team in her first collegiate appearance. She followed that up by being named ECC Bowler of the Week and earning ECC Honor Roll recognition three times.
Funk, a Second Team All-ECC selection, maintained a strike rate above 50% and converted 95% of her single-pin opportunities in multiple competitions.
"Being named Rookie of the Year means a lot to me and I'm really proud of the work that got me here," Funk said. "This is just the beginning. I'm excited for what's next."
