Ewing, NJ - Three members of the Adelphi University track and field program opened up the outdoor multis season at the College of New Jersey Invite last week.
On the women's side,
Gabrielle Stafford landed a new career mark in overall points in the heptahlon, with 3,886 to place fourth in a field of 13. Her new PR included career-marks in javelin, high jump and the 200. She logged a second place showing in the javelin, launching an attempt 40.85 meters, for a new Adelphi record. The previous mark was set back in the 2018 season. In the shotput and high jump she placed third as her three best events over the two-day span.
Victoria Hinchcliff completed her first collegiate heptathlon, placing tenth overall. Her best finishes were seventh in both the high jump and 100 hurdles. She was inside the top-10 in two other events, finishing eighth in the long jump and ninth in the shotput.
Representing the men,
Sergio Talamo placed sixth in the Decathlon, as he put together two personal bests in the set of events. He placed highest in the high jump and 100 hurdles, taking second in both. He cleared 1.74m in the former for a new career mark and ran 16.23 in the hurdles to nearly top the field. Talamo's other PR came from his 11.79 finish in the 100, as he placed fourth.
He placed third in a pair of events (long jump and discus) and logged fourth place finishes in three others before the two-day event was through.
The team will head back to TCNJ to compete at the Lions Invite, starting on Friday, April 24.
