New Haven, Conn. - Following day one of the Dr. Sander Scorcher at the Armory, the track and field team tripped to Southern Connecticut State University to take on the William Suthernland II Invite, before the storm.
Women's Highlights:
- Kayla Esposito won her heat of the 55 meter prelims (7.57) and ultimately finished fourth in the finals in a time of 7.59.
- Rookie Brianna McGowan put up a time of 1:03.24 in the 400 meter race, to lead all Adelphi competition and placed third overall in field of over 20.
- Christina Sakellis was three seconds off her best collegiate mile, but clocked in at 5:45.61 to place fifth. FEllow first year Natalie Niselson led all Panthers in the 5000 race with a new personal best time of 20:43.84, to finish third.
- Gabrielle Stafford returned to the high jump mat and topped out at 1.50 on her first attempt, placing third overall.
- Lori Melville competed in the 55 hurdles, shot put and weight throw at the meet, putting a personal best time together in the hurdles at 9.80. She placed fifth overall in the shot put with an attempt that landed at 10.48m.
- Madeline Staley was the top Panther finished in the wight throw with a new personal best at 12.53m.
Men's Highlights:
- Mosiah Calderon was the top Panther finisher in the men's mile - appearing 10th with a time of 4:47.41. His time was third best in his heat and a personal collegiate best.
- Tristan Cuevas was fourth in the 3000 (9:42.60) and teammate Jake Orfano came in second for the 5000 event in a time of 15:44.10.
- Nicholas Paul was responsible for a pair of personal bests in the shotput and weight throw. His shotput distance fo 11.99m placed him 12th while his 15.40m launch in the weight throw was good enough for a sixth place showing.
Adelphi will be back in action on Friday, Jan. 30 when they go to Boston for the Johhn Thomas Terrier Classic. Additionally, some members may attend the Millrose Games, if entries are accepted.
