Staten ISland, N.Y. - For the first time in 2026, the Adelphi University track and field programs returned to action at the NYC Gotham Cup, hosted at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex on Friday.
Women's Highlights:
- Karen Jackson and Christina Sakellis went 5-6 in placement for the 5000 meter run, clocking in within six seconds of each other. Jackson's time of 20:20.55 is a new personal best for the sophomore, shaving off five seconds from her previous best time.
- Shareve Blair finished fifth overall in the 60 meter dash invitational, amongst a ield of Division I competition. She cut the tape in 7.82, which is a new personal best mark for the sophomore as well and moves her up one spot to fifth among East Region competition.
- Krystal Patel topped her section of the 500, putting together a 1:26.05 race while Eva Gonzalez recorded the top 400 time for the Cats, placing 16th overall in a tme of 1:02.29.
- Caleigh Hopkins was the top Division II finisher in the mile, also posting a new career-best time of 5:25.93.
- Madeline Staley bested her record in the weight throw, launching an attempt 11.55m (to beat her previous best mark of 11.27m) as did Izma Mir with her throw of 11.47m (previous 11.24m).
Men's Highlights:
- David Williams made it to the finals of the 60 hurdles and placed third overall as the top and only division II competitor in the field - he raced to third with a time of 8.27.
- Mosiah Calderon ran his first collegiate 5000 meter run and was the top finisher for Adelphi as a freshman - clocking in at 16:03.21.
- Newcomer Evan Weber also made the finals of the 60 meter dash invitational, and placed seventh overall in a time of 6.96, just .04 off his time from the season opener.
- Jack Coyne was the top Panther in the field of the mile but ran three seconds shy of his personal best, placing 11th in a time of 4:42.47, leading teammates Jake Orfano, and Sean Sinnott.
- Adelphi's A relay of the men's 4x800 came in third behind a pair of Division I competitors as Jack Riegger, Maxwell Krapf, Jack Coyne and Deven Dernardin clocked in at 8:02.52. This is currently the only 4x800 time recorded in the NE10 as of Friday. Last year's winning time of the 4x800 at the conference championship meet was 7:59.38.
- Alexander Grandchamps beat his personal best distance in the long jump, using a leap of 6.45m to place 14th in the field of 30.
The track and field programs will be back in action starting Friday, Jan. 23 to compete at the Dr. Sander Scorcher, hosted at the Armory.
