Mansfield, Mass. – After both the Adelphi men's and women's golf teams earned second-place finishes at their respective tournaments last week, three Panthers were honored with the four weekly awards from the Northeast 10 Conference it was announced on Wednesday afternoon. Nikola Truhlarova led the way, sweeping the women's honors as both player and rookie of the week, while Francis Lanuza and Zeus Sara were named the men's player and rookie of the week, respectively.
Truhlarova's collegiate debut was an impressive one, finishing just one shot behind the tournament winner. The Czech native ended the event at 6-over par, narrowly missing a putt on her final hole that would have tied her for first.
In round one, she shot a 5-over (77), highlighted by birdies on holes five and eight, before running into some trouble on the back nine. On day two, efficiency was key—she carded a two-over (74) to secure a second-place individual finish.
Lanuza's strong play at the George Cangero Invitational earned him second place, thanks to a stellar two-under-par (70). In his lone round of the tournament, the senior was red-hot on the front nine, collecting three of his five total birdies during that stretch. Lanuza is coming off the best season of his career—earning all-conference first team honors—and is off to a strong start this fall.
Sara, like Truhlarova, competed in his first collegiate tournament. The Philippines native shot an even-par (72), capped by back-to-back birdies on his final two holes. The freshman tied for fifth place at the invitational and looks to be a key contributor for head coach David Mattana's talented squad.
Both teams return to action this Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 15–16. The women will travel to Pennsylvania to compete in the Millersville University Women's Fall Classic at Berkleigh Golf Club, while the men will head to Concord, N.H. to participate in the Southern New Hampshire University Tournament at Beaver Meadow Golf Course.
