Track and Field Takes on Delaware Invitational

Newark, DE - It was a weekend full of personal bests and collegiate firsts as the Adelphi University track and field program took on the Delaware Invitational hosted by the University of Delaware on Friday. 

Women's Highlights: 
  • Madeline Staley and Lori Melville threw the program's second (37.65) and third (35.73) best distances in the discus - only behind now Assistant Coach Kyria Moore - placing fifth and ninth, respectively.
  • Marissa Haye, Kayla Esposito and Ciara Kong were all responsible for personal best times in their respective 100m heats and finished fifth, 15th and 17th overall in a field of 25 competitors.
  • Caleigh Hopkins shaved off four seconds from her career best time in the 1500m race, clocking in at 5:13 to place fourth overall as Karen Jackson put together a 24-second PR (from her indoor time at the Northeast-10 Conference Championship) to sit sixth behind teammate Maya Suarez
  • First year Brooke Fessler landed a 1.55m attempt in the high jump, ultimately placing third in the event. Esposito and Fessler went fourth and sixth in the triple jump, with best attempts at 10.26m and 9.94m, respectively.
  • Gabrielle Stafford competed in both the shot put and the javelin, placing ninth and 15th in each event. 
Men's Highlights: 
  • Paul Garraway-Paul topped the Panthers in the 200m in a time of 22.52 to place 9th overall while teammates Bryan Combary and David Williams put together personal best races to finish 16th and 30th, respectively. 
  • Deven Bernardin put up a new PR in the 1500 with a time of 4:10.67, which has him ranking 14th among NE10 competitors. Chris Bien-Aime also landed in the top-10 in the section, placing seventh in a time of 4:12.55.
  • Williams and Combary went two-three in the men's 110 hurdles with times of 14.61 and 14.83 which now put them one-two in the conference.
  • Nicholas Maltese cleared 3.35m in the pole vault which is fifth best in the league and Alexander Grandchamps steps on the scene with a long jump of 6.28m to sit just outside the top-20 for the NE10.
  • Matthew Wenz's launch of 39.83m in the discus was good enough for a fifth place showing, and 1.21m from his personal best - in his first discus outing of the season.
  • Andre Francis and Nicholas Paul competed in the hammer once again and finished second and sixth as the former landed an attempt of 50.47m for a new PR. Paul PR'd in both shot put and hammer this weekend, with a 43.74 mark that puts him seventh in the conference.

The squad will once again be split among two meets - weather permitting - as a roup will head to the TCNJ Multi Invite and another to the Bison Outdoor Classic.
