Garden City, N.Y. - After a weather-riddled final weekend of the regular season, the Adelphi University softball team learned its fate in the Northeast-10 Championship last night, earning a date with No. 2 seed Saint Anselm College on Tuesday afternoon.
The Brown and Gold finished 10-10 in conference play, winning five of their last eight to earn a playoff berth. First year head coach
Katie Apostolopoulos finished with a winning record at home, notching key wins against the current two, three, and four seeds within the last three weeks.Â
More than one win is needed for Adelphi, as holding the lower seed requires two wins to advance to championship weekend. The Hawks on the other hand, only need one victory out of a potential two battles to move on.Â
These two squads just squared off this past Thursday, with the Panthers taking Game 1 by a score of 6-0.
Lily Kenney finished with a complete game shutout off eight strikeouts and allowing four hits.Â
Kenney's stellar outing wasn't limited to her play against Saint Anselm, as the sophomore finished third in earned run average across the NE10 with a 1.17. The only two players ahead of her is the two-headed monster leading Pace University, in Giselle Garcia and Alyssa Smart. In addition, her mere four walks allowed tied for the conference lead, along with her strikeout to walk ratio (13.00) being second in all of Division II.Â
Offense isn't too bad for the Cats either, as
Ellen Tarjan and
Courtney Wengryn are near the top of the mountain in some hitting categories. Tarjan's 14 RBI find her just five behind the leader in Saint A's Rose Reitmayer. Furthermore, Wengryn is in a tie for third for the most doubles in conference play, tallying seven.Â
Action from Manchester, N.H. is set for 2 p.m., with a potential second game scheduled for 4 p.m.. Full coverage of the NE10 Softball Championship can be found at NE10NOW on FloCollege, with live statistics coverage
