Oceanside, N.Y. - In the fourth annual event of its kind, the Adelphi University women's golf team took home a fourth place finish at this year's edition of the Panther Battle at the Bay. The program hosted the tournament at The Golf Club at Middle Bay earlier this week.
The Brown and Gold accumulated a total score of 77-over 653, just two strokes behind third place University of New Haven and 11 strokes behind second place West Chester University of Pennsylvania. Fellow Northeast-10 conference member Franklin Pierce University took home the team victory.
Three Panther golfers slotted inside the top ten at the 35 player competition, led by seventh place
Jenny Kim. The Overland Park, Kan. native leveraged a seven-over 79 in the first round of play, compiling 10 pars and a birdie.
Freshmen
Ivory Drusch and
Cat Slade tied for ninth, with each of them tallying a 18-over 162. The pair shot the inverse of each other across the two days. Drusch notched an 11-over 83 on Day 1 and a nine-over 81 on Day 2, with Slade shooting the 81 on Day 1, and an 83 on Day 2.
Lauren Jaskier used consistent play to get inside the top 20, as two 85's got her to 19th place.
Filippa Schulze Doering was right behind her, with an impressive 83 in the second round to finish at 20th.
Four more Panthers competed as individuals, with
Ellie Ferris and
Adaline Ochoa earning top 25 honors, going at 23rd and 24th.
Alexis Cokinos and
Isabella Deblois rounded out the Adelphi scorecard, shooting a 191 and 199, respectively.
Head Coach
Bill Bresnan and the Panthers will wrap up the spring schedule over the weekend at the Hartford Hawks Spring Invitational, hosted by University of Hartford. Action from Keney Park Golf Course in Windsor, Conn. will commence on Saturday, April 26 and conclude on Sunday, April 27.
