Beaubrun's Leap Highlights Track and Field Opener

West Long Branch, NJ - After concluding the indoor track and field season nearly a month ago, the Adelphi University program headed straight for the outdoor campaign, opening up wt the 29thn Annual Monmouth Opener over the weekend. 

Women's Highlights:
  • Valencia Beaubrun topped a Division I-heavy field in the long jump, using a leap of 5.81m to take first overall - this comes off a medal-winning indoor campaign where she won the event for her first gold medal. The NCAA Division II qualifying mark is 5.86m. 
  • Lucia Kutner ended up fifth in the 3000 steeplechase, ahead of several competitors from Lehigh and East Stroudsburg - her time of 11:58.54 is her first time running sub-12 minutes and a new personal best mark.
  • Shareve Blair ended up 13th overall in the women's 100, clocking in at 12.46 (PR). Sanai Springer, Imani Mudiay and Ciara Kong each also ran PRs in the event. 
  • Fiona Maloney won her second of the 200 meter race, clocking in at 26.25 and placing 28th overall - teammates Kong, Kayla Esposito, Julia Miller and Gabrielle Stafford also each posted personal best marks. 
  • Madeline Staley put up first collegiate outdoor marks in the shotput (10.32m) and discus (34.85m)m placing 21st and 17th, respectively. 

Men's Highlights: 
  • Paul Garraway-Paul was responsible for two, top-20 finishes in the 100 and 200, placing 21st and 17th, respectively. His 100 time is seventh among league competition after opening weekend. 
  • Deven Bernardin was a top-25 finisher in the men's 800 - his time of 1:59.61 saw him finish 22nd overall, in a field of 46 competitors and ranks him first in the NE10. This was also the first time that the rookie broke two-minutes. 
  • Bryan Combary clocked in at 57.43 to place 12th in the men's 400 hurdles - a new personal best mark in the specialty for the senior and the best time in the conference to start the season. 
  • Ryan Moritz beat out some Division I competition in the shot put and placed 15th in the field with a 13.06m mark. 
  • Andre Francis launched a new PR in the hammer of 48.63m, which ranks third in the conference after opening weekend. 
Adelphi track and field is split between University of Delaware and Princeton for the Sam Howell Distance Carnival starting on Friday, Apr. 4.
