Boston, Mass. – With a team total of 66 points, the Adelphi University men's track and field team secured a fourth-place finish at this year's Northeast-10 Conference Indoor Track and Field Championship, held at The Track at New Balance.
Led by gold medals from
Andre Francis and
David Williams, the Panthers trailed defending champion Southern Connecticut State (205.50 points), New Haven (142 points), and Franklin Pierce (94 points) in the final standings.
Francis, who did not appear on the podium last season, improved from fifth place in 2024 to the top of the standings in the weight throw with a launch of 17.26 meters—a new personal best for the senior. He also contributed to the team's point total with an eighth-place finish in the men's shot put.
On the track, Williams set an Adelphi record in the 60-meter hurdles prelims, clocking in at 8.12 seconds to secure the top seed heading into the finals. He carried that momentum through to the championship race, posting a time of 8.17 seconds to claim gold—his second consecutive podium finish. In 2024, Williams had finished runner-up with a time of 8.15 seconds.
Rounding out the medalists for the men's team was the 4x800 relay, which reached the podium for the second straight season and just the third time since 2015. The quartet of
Nicholas Nanan,
Jayson Plaza,
Deven Bernardin, and
Jack Riegger took home bronze.
Several other athletes contributed points with top-eight finishes.
Sergio Talamo and
Matthew Wenz placed fourth and fifth, respectively, in the heptathlon, while the men's 4x400 relay narrowly missed the podium, finishing fourth.
Jake Orfano recorded fifth-place finishes in both the 3,000-meter and 5,000-meter races, while
Bishopp Boutin also finished fifth in the high jump.
Adelphi will send several athletes to last-chance meets in an effort to qualify for the 2025 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championship. Williams currently holds a top-50 national ranking in the 60-meter hurdles.
