In an All-Adelphi Men's Doubles Final, Farrow and Munoz Reinoso Claim ITA Crown

Flushing, N.Y. — The final day of the ITA East Regional Championships featured an all-Adelphi doubles title match for head coach Rebecca Fakas and the men's tennis team. Number two seeded Reece Farrow and Hugo Munoz Reinoso took on four seed Marko Jovanovic and Viktor Hockl after both teams soared through the previous rounds, defeating the one and three seeds in the process.

Per the ITA's rules, to win the match, the winning team must have eight games won and win by two. An eight-eight tie triggers a seven point tiebreak.

Farrow and Munoz Reinoso seized an early 4-0 lead and had all of the momentum on their side early. Jovanovic and Hockl bounced back and won their first game in game number one and began to dig themselves out of a hole.

Games six, seven, eight and nine went back and forth and going into game 10, Farrow and Munoz Reinoso held a 6-3 lead. After their game nine victory, something began to click for Jovanvic and Hockl.

The pair started to fix their early errors and went on an absolute tear. A 3-6 deficit quickly turned into an 8-7 lead.

While Jovanovic and Hockl were looking to spoil their teammates early lead and claim the title, Farrow and Munoz Reinoso settled in and took the sixteenth and final game, sending the match to a tiebreak.

In a match that had so many highs and lows for both duos, Farrow and Munoz Reinoso once again found the momentum that they had early on and took the tiebreak, seven to four, winning the match and the ITA east regional men's doubles championship.

In singles play, Jovanovic, who was ranked as the number one seed, was the Panther that advanced the furthest, reaching the men's semifinal.

Hockl (two seed) and Munoz Reinoso (ten seed) both competed in the round of sixteen.

The Adelphi men's team returns to the court when they start conference play on Tuesday, Sep. 24 when they travel to Franklin Pierce.
