Men's and Women's Tennis Receive Full Slate of ITA Academic Awards

7/24/2024 10:00:00 AM

Tempe, AZ - For the fifth consecutive year, the Adelphi University men's and women's teams were each recognized as an ITA All-Academic Team, the association announced Tuesday afternoon.

Additionally, for the first time in head coach Rebecca Fakas' tenure, all 15 of her student-athletes were named ITA Scholar-Athletes. This is due largely in part to the teams' 3.959 (men) and 3.888 (women) department-leading cumulative grade-point-averages.

"To have all of the players receive this accolade is an incredible achievement. It is a testament to their hard work and dedication in the classroom throughout the entire year. They have set a new standard and I'm excited to see where we go from here," remarked Fakas.

In order to qualify as an ITA All-Academic Team, a program must meet a minimum 3.2 team grade-point average for the current academic year. The 15 names honored as ITA Scholar-Athletes all qualified with a 3.5 grade-point-average or higher.

Those honored were: Astrid Bergh, Roisin Boyd, Carolina Chaves, Reece Farrow, Caterina Federici, Viktor Hockl, Thomas Horsley, Matias Hoyos, Marko Jovanovic, Katarina Liedbeck, Hugo Munoz Reinoso, Thiago Negrao, Casey Recci, Sanne Selmer Ginje, and Elisabeth Seyfarth

Both programs won Northeast-10 tournament titles in 2023-24, with the men's victory coming as a department first. Jovanovic was honored as the CSC Division II Team Member of the year for his exceptional academic and athletic accomplishments as Reinoso and Liedbeck also picked up CSC Academic All-American honors, to help the department's total reach eight athletes for the school year.

Fakas and her teams will gear up for the 2024-25 season which will get underway after the first of September.
