Mansfield, Mass. - In another 30-win season for the 'Cats, Adelphi University softball senior catcher
Angela Lignelli has been named NE10 Defensive Player of the Year, the conference announced Wednesday afternoon.
Additionally,
Carla Campagna has been named NE10 Coach of the Year, following the team's third straight top seeding in the conference tournament.Â
Lignelli and Campagna both take home the same honor they won in 2022, giving them both two major award wins in three seasons. Lignelli's 1.000 fielding percentage was the second-highest amongst fielders with as many putouts as her 165.Â
"Angela is the reason why I think our pitchers are so successful. Her leadership and command of the infield, coupled with her veteran presence, give her an ability to adjust to any adversity," added Campagna on her starting catcher.
Eight others that don the Brown and Gold were also awarded All-Conference honors.
Lindsey Hibbs joined Lignelli on the First Team as an At-Large selection for the third time in her career. Hibbs' 2024 has been highlighted by reaching over 900 strikeouts in her career, along with her third consecutive season holding her opponents to a sub .200 batting average.Â
Jordyn Pasqueralli and
Kendall Winn were both named Second Team All-Conference for the first time as an outfielder and catcher, respectively.
Faith Camilleri also earned an At-Large selection on the Third Team, now doing so in both her freshman and senior seasons.
Zee Zee Shreter joined Lignelli on the All-Defensive Team, also boasting a 1.000 fielding percentage in right field. The Panthers earned three selections on the All-Rookie Team, with
Lily Kenney,
Kaitlyn Klepper, and
Tori Parente being honored. Kenney and Parente proved to be a powerful combination down the stretch, with Parente relieving Kenney in two crucial regular season wins against Bentley and Assumption.Â
Campagna and Adelphi now look ahead to the NE10 Tournament, with their first game being on Friday, May 3 at Janet L. Ficke Field. They will face the winner of No. 8 Southern Connecticut vs. No. 4 Southern New Hampshire at 12 noon.Â
