Priest’s Big Day, Kenney’s Gem Lead Softball to Sweep at Saint Mike's

Colchester, Vt. – The Adelphi University softball team swept Saint Michael's College on Sunday afternoon, led by a four-hit performance in game one from Emma Priest and a complete game from Lily Kenney in the nightcap.

Series History:
  • Entering today, the season series was tied 1-1 following the split on Saturday.
  • Prior to today's doubleheader, the programs had faced off 20 times dating back to the 2010 season.
  • Adelphi (30-16, 26-6 NE10) stands at 19-3 all-time against the Purple Knights (9-31, 7-23 NE10).
Game One: Adelphi 11, Saint Michael's 3 (F/5)

Highlights:

  • Priest went four-for-four with four RBIs, finishing a double shy of the cycle.
  • Kaitlyn Klepper had three hits, drove in two runs and scored twice.
  • Faith Wagner and Tori Parente each tallied multi-hit performances while scoring twice.
  • Makayla Comer drove in a pair of runs in the victory.

How it Happened:

  • Two pitches into the game, Priest got the Panthers on the board with a solo home run.
  • Saint Michael's responded with a two-spot in the bottom of the first, drawing two walks and recording a two-out, two-run double.
  • After a scoreless second frame, the Brown and Gold erupted for seven runs in the third inning. The Panthers tallied six hits in the inning, highlighted by two-run triples from both Klepper and Priest, along with a two-run double from Comer.
  • In the fourth, Klepper smacked her second triple of the game and was later brought home on a sacrifice fly from Maddy Moore to extend the lead to seven.
  • After the Purple Knights added a run in the fourth, Adelphi responded with two more in the fifth to end game one early via the run rule. The Panthers strung together three straight hits from Wagner, Parente and Priest during the inning.
Game Two: Adelphi 4, Saint Michael's 1

Highlights:

  • Lily Kenney tossed a complete game, allowing one run while striking out a career-high 10 batters.
  • Priest, Klepper and Parente each recorded two hits, with Klepper also driving in a run.
  • Moore hit a two-run home run, her fifth of the season.
  • Jaylen Wright went one-for-three with a run scored.

How it Happened:

  • Adelphi opened the scoring once again, as Wright doubled and Klepper followed with an RBI single, giving the Cats a one-run lead in the first.
  • In the third, the Panthers extended their lead to three. After Klepper singled, Moore launched the first pitch she saw over the fence in left-center field for a two-run home run.
  • Saint Michael's responded in the bottom half of the inning with three singles and a sacrifice fly to plate its lone run.
  • In the fourth, Adelphi regained a three-run cushion. Parente led off with a single, Priest followed with a double, and Wright brought Parente home with a groundout.
  • From there, Kenney took control, working through traffic late—including three singles in the seventh—to secure the complete-game victory.

Up Next:

  • The Panthers return to the diamond on Tuesday, April 28, when they host Caldwell University for a non-conference doubleheader beginning at 2:30 p.m..
