Colchester, Vt. – Adelphi University's softball team split its doubleheader with Saint Michael's College on Saturday afternoon, winning game one in a back-and-forth extra-inning thriller before dropping game two.

Series History:

Game One: Adelphi 9, Saint Michael's 6 (F/8)

Highlights:

How It Happened:

  • After a scoreless first frame, the Panthers got on the board in the top of the second. Following a pair of singles from Moore and Wagner, Parente ripped a triple down the right field line to give Adelphi a two-run lead. Two batters later, Priest delivered an extra-base hit to extend the lead to three.
  • The Panthers added another run in the third after hits by Klepper and Moore put runners on the corners. A ground ball to the right side off the bat of Wagner brought home a run to extend the lead.
  • Saint Michael's got on the board in the fifth, taking advantage of a walk and a double.
  • In the sixth, the Purple Knights used three walks and a two-run triple to tie the game.
  • In the top of the seventh, Adelphi regained the lead. Hits from Tarjan and Klepper set up a two-run single by Wagner, making it 6-4.
  • The hosts responded in the bottom half, using a walk, a single, and a double to cut the deficit to one before a groundout tied the game at six.
  • In extras, Priest and Jaylen Wright each singled. Tarjan and Klepper followed with RBI hits, and Moore added a sacrifice fly to give the Panthers a three-run cushion.
  • In the bottom of the inning, Parente worked around two hits to secure the win.

Highlights:

  • Lily Kenney tossed a complete game, striking out eight to tie a career high while allowing just two runs on two hits.

  • In the fourth, Priest recorded the Panthers' lone hit. She advanced on a sacrifice bunt by Wright and moved to third on a wild pitch but was stranded.
  • Kenney kept Adelphi in the game throughout, but Saint Michael's added an insurance run in the sixth, capitalizing on a one-out triple followed by an RBI single.
  • The Panthers drew three walks in their final at-bats to load the bases, but were unable to capitalize as all runners were left stranded.
