Philadelphia, PA - In an opening weekend of split squad action, Adelphi University track and field sent three athletes to compete in the helptathlon at the University of Pennsylvania.
Matthew Wenz,
Sergio Talamo and
Aidan Hanratty represented the Panthers, placing seventh through ninth, respectively in their first weekend of the indoor season.
Wenz led the charge with a point total of 4,062, earning his highest finishes of the seven-event specialty in the long jump and shotput - placing fourth in both. His best heptathlon score comes from last year's indoor conference championship, when he earned a bronze medal with a total of 4,495.
Talamo was responsible for a new career mark in the hep with a score of 4,006 - as his first time cracking the 4,000 threshold. His best event placement was the pole vault where he landed a 3,80m height to earn fourth in the field. His 60 meter dash time of 7.63 was not enough to land in the top-10, but is a new career-best in the event.
Competing in his first collegiate heptathlon, Hanratty scored 3,969 wn route to a ninth place showing, defeating one competitor out of Division I Monmouth. For his opening meet, he was top-five in two different events, clocking in at 7.25 in the 60 meter dash to place fourth while using a tim of 8.89 in the 60 hurdles to come in fifth overall.
The trio will rejoin the team for next week's competition at the Art Kadish Memorial meet, hosted by Southern Connecticut on Friday, December 13.
