Staten Island, N.Y. - Taking a trip across the Verazzano Bridge to the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex, the Adelphi University track and field program kicked off its indoor season on Friday, competing at the Fastrack Season Opener.
Men's Highlights:
- Andre Francis won the men's weight throw with a personal best launch of 17.22m - placed him second on the Adelphi all-time performance list, and ranks him second in the Northeast-10
- First year Paul Garraway-Paul clocked in at 22.46 in the 200 meter race, which sits first in the conference after opening weekend - he also anchored the men's 4x400 that has the league's top-time of 3:24.16
- Jack Coyne's time of 4:30.44 in the mile puts him fourth in the NE10.
- Jake Orfano finished third in the field for the 5000 in a time of 15:33.86, just two seconds off his personal best from last season (15:31.19).
Women's Highlights:
- Valencia Beaubrun put up the first NCAA provisional mark of the season in the long jump with a PR of 5.70m to place second in the field; this puts her second in the league and hits the Adelphi performance list at no. 2 as well - Her 200 meter performance of 26.04 is also third best in the conference.
- Shareve Blair tied for the tenth best mark for Adelphi's performance list in 60 meter - clocking in at 7.84 which is the third best time in the league to open the weekend
- Marissa Haye raced to a 1:01.36 time in the 400 which saw her finish sixth in the field and ranks her third among conference competition.
Adelphi track and field will head to NE10 foe Southern Connecticut for the Art Kadish Elm City Challenge on Friday, December 13.
