New Haven, Conn. - A small squad from the Adelphi University track and field program tripped to New Haven on Friday to compete at the annual Art Kadish Elm City Challenge, hosted by Southern Connecticut State.
Women's Highlights:
- After concluding the volleyball season and returning from an injury, Gabrielle Stafford finished in a tie for fourth in the high jump with a height of 1.45m.
- Izma Mir put up a new PR in the weight throw, launching an attempt 10.19m.
- On the track, Lori Melville put together a 55m dash personal best time of 8.15, in just her second competition in an Adelphi uniform.
- Eva Gonzalez clocked in at 1:44.63 to place third in a field of 12 competitors, in her first time racing the specialty.
Men's Highlights:
- Andre Francis won his second weight throw event in as many weekends, using a 16.68m launch to lead the field. His winning distance from last week (17.22) ranks second in the East Region but is still over a meter from a provisional mark.
- Nicholas Paul and Damian McGhie also competed in the weight throw event, placing 14th and 18th, respectively.
- Samuel Gorelik was responsible for a 600 time of 1:29.20 to place fourth, as teammate Devin Bernardin clocked in a second later to place ninth.
- David Williams and Bryan Combary both competed in the 55 hurdles and made the finals, placing third (7.70) and fifth (7.87), respectively.
The team will break for now through the new year and return to action on Saturday, January 17 at the NYC Gotham Cup.
