Men's Swimming Tops Reigning NE10 Champion SCSU, 159-139

11/9/2024 8:50:00 PM

New Haven, Conn. - After falling short at the 2024 Northeast-10 Conference championship to Southern Connecticut - resulting in a third place finish - the Adelphi University men's swimming and diving program sought vengeance and succeeded on Saturday, topping the Owls 159-139 in dual meet action.

Meet Notes:
  • The teams split the relay events, with Adelphi taking the coveted 400 free relay in a time of 3:09.28 - the Panthers defeated SCSU in this event at last year's championship as well, posting a 3:04.93
  • The 'Cats delivered a 1-2 finish in the 100 backstroke, courtesy of Ryan Kakimseit and Eric Slavin and then again in the 100 butterfly with Tyler Thompson and Jake Chee-A-Tow.
  • Valerii Pidhoretskyy topped the field in the 50 freestyle with a time of 21.20, which now stands as the top time in the NE10 and doubled down on that feat in the 100 freestyle, clocking in at 46.59 (which is .29 from Adelphi's record held by Cooper Rivers).
  • Kakimseit's time in the 200 backstroke is the best in the conference at 1:55.09 and was a little over two seconds faster than the next finisher from SCSU.
  • Connor Singer made his way to the top of the leaderboard with his 2:10.68 time in the 200 breast, which is still six seconds from the record he set at last year's NE10s.
  • The Panthers went 2-3-4 in the 200 IM (Cooper Rivers, Tyler Thompson, Connor Singer) which was good enough for nine points toward the overall team score.
Adelphi will now prepare for the ECAC Winter Championship, starting December 6 at the Nassau Aquatic Center
