Adelphi Sweeps New Paltz in Dual Meet Action

New Paltz, N.Y. - Kicking off the weekend, the Adelphi University men's and women's swimming programs secured a clean sweep at New Paltz on Friday, posting scores of 144-61 and 143-59, respectively. 

Women's Meet Notes:
  • Adelphi took first place in all 11 events, taking the top two spots in six of those races. 
  • Delaney Noel was nearly 15 seconds faster than the next competitor in the lanes for the 1000 free, finishing in 12:16.95.
  • Newcomer Daniela Zunich and Sophia Bouyer went 1-2 in the 200 free race, clocking in at 2:10.73 and 2:11.10, respectively. 
  • Reigning NE10 Rookie of the Week Kelly Tula neared her 100 butterfly personal best with a 1:02.97 finish, coming in four seconds quicker than teammate Zunich.
Men's Meet Notes:
  • Adelphi took first place in nine of the 11 events, taking the top two spots in six of nine. 
  • Cooper Rivers swam a 4:56.99 in the men's 500 freestyle, just seven seconds from his personal best time of 4:50.33 - still sitting 17 seconds from the Adelphi record of 4:40.02 (Zachary, Terzano 2008)
  • Tyler Thompson and Valerii Pidhoretskyy posted time of 53.83 and 55.10, respectively - inching closer to Ryan Kakimseit's record of 49.26.
  • Tristan Weingarten was 1.11 seconds from his personal best in the 50 freestyle, clocking in at 21.98.
  • Gus Upchurch put his distance cap on to place first in the 1000 freestyle in a time of 10:24.43, which will put him inside the top-10 for the NE10, alongside his current season ebst of 10:17.54.
  • Adelphi's 400 medley relay time of 3:30.37 is eight seconds off the record set at last year's NE10 Championship and the 200 freestyle quartet put up a time of 1:26.55, which sits three seconds from the record set at ECACs in 2023. 
The team will prepare for back-to-back meets next weekend, as the Cats open with a tri-meet against Lehman/Mount Saint Mary on Friday, Nov. 8 before taking on the reigning NE10 Champions in Southern Connecticut. The Owls have won three consecutive conference titles on the men's side and four on the women's heading into the 2024-25 season.
