Pleasantville, N.Y. - Opening up the 2024-25 season, the Adelphi University men's and women's swimming and diving program competed at Pace University on Saturday evening, with the former taking a win while the latter suffered a loss to the Setters.
The Panther men left the lanes with a staggering 175-49 victory while the women were defeated 87-138.
The Cats opened the meet with back-to-back victories in the lanes for the 200 yard medley relay, featuring newcomers
Kelly Tula and
Laura Moran in the women's event and
Valerii Pidhoretskyy in the men's.
Gus Upchurch earned his first collegiate win in the lanes for the 1000 yard freestyle, clocking in at 10:17.54 while Coooper Rivers was seven seconds from his personal best in the 200 free at 1:47.55 to still place first. Also shining for the men was
Valerii Pidhoretskyy in the men's 50 freestyle (21.42) who also posted a 21.48 time in the freestyle relay as the leadoff and in the medley relay event.
Tyler Romero picked up wins on both the one and three meter diving events in his first collegiate outing for the Panthers.
The men delivered a one-two punch in the men's 100 butterfly with
Jake Chee-A-Tow and
Luke Paragas posting top times with 52.81 and 56.00, respectively.
Aizel Pusing continued her success from her rookie season with a top time in the 100 breaststroke at 1:12.35 as did
Connor Singer as he finished over two seconds faster than the finisher from Pace in the same event.
Just three seconds from the Adelphi record, the quartet of Pidhoretskyy,
Eric Slavin, Rivers, and
Tristan Weingarten completed the 200 freestyle relay in 1:26.30 to cap the night.
The Panthers will be back in action at the College of Staten Island on Friday, October 25 when they take on the Dolphins at 4:00 p.m..
