Men's Swimming Sweeps Weekly Awards

Mansfield, Mass. - After taking a 99-20 victory over Assumption swimming last weekend, the Adelphi men swept their respective side of the Northeast-10 weekly awards, securing swimmer, rookie and relay of the week. 

Zachary Taylor picks up his first collegiate Swimmer of the Week honor after four top swims over the weekend including two relays against the Greyhounds. He completed his leg of the 200 freestyle relay in 22.75 to help the quartet to a 1:31.77 finish and added a 26.56. time for the 200 medley relay. In the 100 and 200 freestyle events he clocked in at 50.37 and 1:57.73, respectively to place first in the field.  

Newcomer Eric Slavin took home two individual top swims and helped one relay to a first place finish at the same meet. He clocked in at 22.92 in his leg of the 200 free relay and added a 22.96 time in the 50 freestyle. His 100 butterfly time of 53.85 was best in the lanes, despite being 1.35 off his fastest time this season in the specialty. 

The quartet of Ryan Kakimseit, Taylor, Cooper Rivers and Slavin clocked in at 1:31.77 to best the field in the 200 freestyle relay to be named Relay of the Week. The last three legs of the relay all finished under 23 seconds in the lanes. 

Kakimseit was included on the honor roll, for his two individual top times. In the 100 backstroke he clocked in at 53.50, which ranks eighth overall in the NE10 - with his previous best time of 49.76 still standing atop the conference from December. In the 200 back, he beat out teammate Tim Kanaley with a time of 2:00.74 - he still holds the best time this season in the conference for this event, at 1:52.07 from December. 

Despite a loss for the women, Emily Munayirji and Delaney Noel both earned inclusion on the honor roll. Each earned two top swims against the Greyhounds. 

Munayirji's 100 backstroke time of 1:03.04 was first in the lanes as was her 2:17.33 time in the 200 backstroke event. In the 200 freestyle relay, she clocked in at 27.25 for her respective leg to help the team place second and was responsible for a 29.46 leg in the 200 medley relay which also saw a silver medal finish. 

Noel clocked in at 5:39.74 in the 500 freestyle, finishing two seconds faster than Assumption's competitor. In the 1000 freestyle event, she topped the field in a time of 11:38.90 to earn five points for her team.

The team is back in action this weekend when they travel to take on Le Moyne College and the College of Saint Rose starting Friday, Jan. 12.
