Mansfield, Mass. - Out of the eight possible weekly awards given for track and field, Adelphi athletes claimed five of the spots after their 2024 opener, announced by the Northeast-10 Conference office on Tuesday.
Carlu Koprowski,
Bishopp Boutin and
David Williams all secured their first NE10 Rookie of the Week nods while
Andre Francis and
Katherine Marsh earned field and track Athlete of the week, respectively.
Francis made the final of the weight throw over the weekend at the Suffolk University Icebreaker, placing sixth overall (and first among Division II/NE10 competition) with a launch of 16.33m. Additionally he landed a 12.65m shotput, and was fourth among Division II competition.
Men's track rookie of the week was secured by Williams, who placed third in his heat (behind two Division I competitors) and finished second in the finals of the 60 hurdles in a new program-record time of 8.16. This ranks him 24th on the NCAA qualifying list and stands second in the East Region and NE10 conference. Boutin wins field rookie of the week after not competing at his previous institution. He was the top Division II rookie to compete in the high jump at the Suffolk Icebreaker - his height of 1.85 was good enough to place seventh overall. He was the second best D2 competitor and his height is tied for seventh best in NE10, but tops all freshman heights thus far in the season in the specialty.
For the women, Marsh won the 3k race in a time of 10:26, beating out several competitors from Division I institutions - this time is third best in the conference. Earlier in the day she clocked in at 5:05 in the mile, which is the top time in the NE10 and the East Region so far this season.
Coming off a national semifinalist finish soccer season, Koprowski ran a 2:19.75 in the 800m race to place second overall and earn Women's Track Rookie of the Week. She was the fastest freshman in the event and topped several Division I competitors and her time is the third best in the region and NE10 behind the Marsh twins.
The program competes Friday at the NYC Gotham Cup held at the Ocean Breeze Complex in Staten Island.
