Softball Fills Out NE10 All-Conference Roster; Hibbs, Fischer Collect Major Awards

5/3/2023 3:00:00 PM

Mansfield, Mass. - The Adelphi University softball team was more than well-represented in Wednesday's NE10 All-Conference announcement, with Lindsey Hibbs and Brianna Fischer capturing NE10 Pitcher and Rookie of the Year accolades, respectively.

While six 'Cats were scattered across the three NE10 All-Conference teams, Hibbs was the only Panther to earn the NE10 First Team All-Conference grade.

Hibbs follows in the footsteps of her fellow pitching mate Claire Fon, who took home NE10 Pitcher of the Year recognition a season ago.

A six-time NE10 Pitcher of the Week and two-time NFCA Division II National Pitcher of the Week, Hibbs has received national attention all season. She has broken barriers with a 24-3 record in 31 appearances that includes a 0.56 earned-run average and a school- and NE10-record 344 strikeouts.

Hibbs is on her way to setting more records in the postseason. She stands one win from tying Julie Bolduc and Kristen Peterson for the school's single-season win record and is well on pace towards breaking the NCAA Division II single-season record for strikeout-to-walk ratio, held by one-time rival Jessie Stavola from now-defunct Dowling College in 2011.

In addition to leading all of NCAA Division II in every category pertaining to strikeouts, Hibbs trails Saint Leo's Kayla Betts by only percentage points for the nationwide lead in ERA and WHIP and possesses the fifth-most victories in the country.

Fischer started to take over for the injured Faith Camilleri on Mar. 26 and quickly became Carla Campagna's permanent mainstay at first base. She is the program's first NE10 Rookie of the Year (third all-time) since Emily Whitman in 2019.

Upon assuming starting first base duties, Fischer has posted a .355 batting average with a team-leading four home runs and 20 RBIs. Her nine doubles and fourteen extra-base hits in that time have resulted in a .602 slugging percentage for the freshman. She has also struck out just eight times in those 93 at-bats.

Recruited to Adelphi as a catcher, Fischer has adapted well to the first-base mitt, totaling 164 putouts in 170 total chances for a 1.000 fielding percentage that landed her on the inaugural NE10 All-Defensive Team and All-Rookie Team.

Courtney Wengryn, Alexa Sacripante, Kendall Winn and Zee Zee Shreter all joined Fischer on the NE10 All-Conference Second Team.

Wengryn got out to as blazing a start as any player through the Adelphi lineup. Hovering around .400 for much of the season, Wengryn came home from the team's season-opening Carolina trip with a .471 average, to go along with four home runs and 13 RBIs, earning NE10 and NFCA Division II National Player of the Week honors for her efforts. Since then, Wengryn has produced fewer long balls, but still ranks among the Top 5 batting leaders in the NE10 at .391.

Sacripante has buddied up with Hibbs as her battery mate in 2023, and was cited for both her offensive and defensive play. First, with the bat, Sacripante -- when starting 23 games as the team's designated player -- batted .313 with one home run and 14 RBI, trailing only Winn's .414 average in 12 contests -- who was praised as both an NE10 Second Team All-Conference utility player and a Third Team All-Conference third baseman.

Also an NE10 All-Defensive Team selection, Sacripante was rock steady behind the dish, mishandling only two passed balls all season and possessing  a .996 fielding percentage in the process.

With Jordyn Pasqueralli's arrival in center, Zee Zee Shreter started nearly every game in right and reached base at a near-.400 clip. Even at her 5-foot-3 stature, Shreter lifted three balls out of the yard on the team's Carolina trip and proceeded to finish the regular season as the team's second-leading hitter with a .348 average. She carries a 10-game hitting streak into the postseason and is hitting .484 over the current stretch.

Pasqueralli's elusive speed gave way to quite a first impression, when she rounded the bases for an inside-the-park grand slam against Mercy in her second start at Janet L. Ficke Field back on Mar. 21.

As Adelphi's shiny new hitter atop the order, Pasqueralli hit an astonishing .444 in the regular season when leading off an inning. Additionally, Pasqueralli has thirteen multiple-hit games to her credit, in her first season with the 'Cats.

The postseason commences for the Panthers on Friday (May 5), when top-seeded Adelphi hosts either No. 4 seed Saint Anselm College or No. 8 seed Southern New Hampshire University in an NE10 Championship semifinal at Janet L. Ficke Field. First pitch is scheduled for noon.
