Six Home Runs Power Softball to Sweep At Pace

Pleasantville, N.Y. – Adelphi University's softball team earned back-to-back wins over conference foe Pace University on Tuesday afternoon, using six home runs to earn the first doubleheader sweep since the 2023 season.

Series History:
  • Prior to today's doubleheader, the programs had faced off 59 times dating back to the 2002 season.
  • Adelphi (13-11, 9-1 NE10) was 43-16 all-time against the Setters (12-10, 5-5 NE10), with the most recent matchup (5/2/25) ending in a 2-0 loss.
Game One: Adelphi 6, Pace 4

Highlights:
  • Kaitlyn Klepper smacked her fourth home run of the campaign in a one-for-three effort, driving in two runs and scoring once.
  • Emma Priest had two hits in four at-bats, tallying two RBI and two runs scored.
  • Meghan Fisher smashed her first home run of the doubleheader.
  • Jenna Plue got the start and went all seven innings, striking out four.
How it Happened:
  • Klepper got the Cats' offense going with a round-tripper over the center field fence in the top of the first inning, bringing home Priest, who had led off the game with a double.
  • In the fourth, Fisher got ahold of one, hitting a no-doubter to deep left-center to extend the lead to 3-0.
  • Two innings later, the Panther offense continued to roll, starting with a single from Faith Wagner. Reeghan McCarthy then reached on an error, and both Panthers came around to score on a single from Priest.
  • Later in the inning, Klepper reached on another miscue by the Pace defense, allowing Priest to cross the plate, making it 6-0.
  • During the final two innings of play, the Setters were finally able to put some runs on the board against Plue, plating three in the seventh after scoring once in the sixth. Plue, however, worked out of a two-on, one-out jam to limit the damage and secure the victory.
Game Two: Adelphi 12, Pace 2

Highlights:
  • Fisher went deep twice, driving in four runs in the win.
  • Maddy Moore had two hits in four plate appearances, hitting her first home run of the season and driving in three runs.
  • Ellen Tarjan enjoyed a three-for-four performance, including a home run and two RBI.
  • Tori Parente went seven strong innings, allowing just two earned runs and striking out four.
How it Happened:
  • Fisher got the Panthers on the board in the top of the second, hitting her first of two home runs in the matinee
  • Later that inning, after Jaylen Wright singled, McCarthy doubled over the center fielder's head to bring Wright home.
  • Pace cut the deficit in half with a home run of its own in the bottom half of the third by Ava Edmond.
  • Adelphi responded with a three-run rally in the next inning, as Tarjan clobbered her third round-tripper of the season on an 0-2 count. After Klepper doubled, Fisher went yard for a second time in the game and the third time on the day, hammering the first pitch she saw to left-center.
  • Two innings later, Moore joined the home run parade with a shot over the right-center field fence, scoring both herself and Klepper to extend the lead to 7-1.
  • After Pace scratched across a run in the sixth, stringing together a pair of singles and drawing a walk, Adelphi answered with a five-run outburst in the seventh.
  • Tarjan and Moore both registered RBI singles, while Makayla Comer lined a double into right field to bring home two more runs, putting the game out of reach as the Setters were held scoreless in their final at-bats.
Up next:
  • The Panthers look to continue their strong conference play against Southern New Hampshire University on Friday, April 3, with the doubleheader scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. in Manchester, New Hampshire.
