Hibbs, Wengryn Tack On More Accolades to Postseason Resumes

Garden City, N.Y. - A pair of NE10 All-Conference players, the list of postseason awards continues to grow for Adelphi University softball standouts Lindsey Hibbs and Courtney Wengryn in 2023.

Not only were both 'Cats named NFCA and D2CCA First Team All-Region and are now eligible for All-America consideration, Hibbs achieved the recognition of D2CCA East Region Pitcher of the Year.

Hibbs has undoubtedly shined brightest as the top pitcher in the region all season. She either possesses the national lead or sits among the Top 5 leaders in Division II in every pitching category.

As she prepares to suit up for this week's Super Regional, Hibbs leads the country in strikeouts and earned-run average, while also ranking second in WHIP and third in shutouts.

Hibbs follows teammate Claire Fon as the only two Panthers to ever be named D2CCA East Region Pitcher of the Year, and now has her eyes set on a possible Academic All-America notice.

Only Brenna Martini -- a three-time recipient -- stands as the only CSC Academic All-American in the program's history. Hibbs earns her second Academic All-District honor in as many years, on the strength of maintaining a 3.887 cumulative grade-point average.

Wengryn has patrolled left field across all 52 games in 2023 thus far and aims to become the team's first .400 hitter since Martini in 2017.

She has matched last year's All-Region totals and leads the team in nearly every offensive category in the process. The definition of consistent, Wengryn has gone only ten games this season without a hit, en route to posting a career-best .401 average to-date.

On top of her skills with the bat, Wengryn has produced a 3.893 cumulative grade-point average as a Marketing major to obtain her first career selection to the CSC Academic All-District Team.

Should she earn the title of NFCA or D2CCA All-American, Wengryn would become just the fourth outfielder all-time at Adelphi to receive the distinct honor, joining Regina Dooley (1984, 1985), Samantha Johnston (2009) and Emily Dorko (2013).

The top-seeded Panthers are preparing for a Super Regional re-match against No. 2 seed Wilmington University at Janet L. Ficke Field this Thursday (May 18) and Friday (May 19). The winner of the best-of-three series will earn the right to represent the East Region at the NCAA Division II National Championship in Chattanooga, Tenn.
