Brookville, N.Y. - Earlier this week, the Adelphi University men's golf team went into deep waters against eight NCAA Division I schools at The Shark Invitational, hosted by Long Island University at Brookville Country Club.
The Panthers did more than tread water, finishing fourth out of nine teams with a three-day score of 885. A first-round 285 had the Brown and Gold sitting in third on the leaderboard through the first eighteen holes.
On the first day alone,
Filip Wetterqvist and
Mason Rivera each shot an even 70 to place among the Top 10 leaders.
Alec Ramos (72) and
Johnny Solari (73) finished two and three strokes back of their respective teammates.
Wetterqvist, who sank nine birdies across the 54 holes, consistently hovered around par each round and wrapped up final-round play in a tie for 12th place with an 8-over 218.
Despite a heavy field, Ramos and first-year golfer
Francis Lanuza both collected Top 25 finishes, as well.
Ramos putted his way to over thirty pars and carded a 13-over 223, tying for 21st place. Lanuza broke below eighty all three rounds -- including a team-leading 70 in Round 2 -- and finished tied for 24th with a 14-over 224.
Rivera joined Ramos among the par leaders and shot 16-over for the tournament, equaling a 226 over the three days. Solari rounded out the scorers for Adelphi with a 236 (73-81-82).
Head Coach
David Mattana and the Panthers will spend the weekend nearby in Bethpage at the Farmingdale State College Spring Invitational at Bethpage Red Golf Course.
