Mansfield, Mass. - The numbers were off the charts for Adelphi University softball players
Courtney Wengryn,
Lindsey Hibbs and
Jordyn Pasqueralli, who all received weekly recognition from the NE10 on Monday afternoon.
You would be hard-pressed to find three better individuals who had a better week across the NCAA Division II landscape.
And not only was Wengryn named the NE10 Player of the Week, the third-year Panther earned national recognition Tuesday as the NFCA Division II National Player of the Week.
Wengryn posted an impeccable slash line of .524/.621/1.238 with 10 RBIs and 13 runs scored in a seven-game span. In raising her season average almost ninety points, Wengryn strung together five mult-hit games and scored two runs or more in six of seven contests.
She has nearly matched last season's home run total (five) already with four roundtrippers. Two of those four were first-inning homers and three of the four on the week gave the Panthers the lead.
Almost unmatched so far, Hibbs has produced 88 strikeouts (third-most in Division II) in the circle thus far. The two pitchers she trails for the nationwide lead has accumulated no more than 35 strikeouts in twice as many appearances.
Now a two-time NE10 Pitcher of the Week, Hibbs' performance last Wednesday night (Feb. 22) was otherworldly, nearly tying an NCAA Division II single-game record with 20 strikeouts in a perfect game at UNC Pembroke.
Hibbs averaged over 10.0 strikeouts per game with a 1.54 earned-run average in six appearances last week, and presently leads all of Division II in strikeouts per seven innings with an average of 15.5 per outing.
Since making her first career start at UNC Pembroke last Tuesday, Pasqueralli has earned
Carla Campagna's trust and cemented herself as Adelphi's new lead-off hitter.
In seven games, Pasqueralli hit an astonishing .435 with 10 runs scored. Her shiftiness on the basepaths gave way to five extra-base hits (two doubles, three triples) and four successful steals in as many attempts. As a result, the freshman tacked on a .783 slugging and .519 on-base percentage to her impressive stat line.
The Panthers now prepare for their home opener against the College of Staten Island on Tuesday, Mar. 14 at 2 p.m. at Janet L. Ficke Field in Garden City, N.Y.
