Swimming Drops New Paltz Behind Kakimseit's Four First-Place Finishes

Garden City, N.Y. - Ryan Kakimseit continues to make an impression in his rookie season in the pool. Four first-place finishes for the two-time reigning Northeast-10 Conference Rookie of the Week helped the Adelphi University swimming and diving team sweep SUNY New Paltz on Friday.

Kakimseit and the men dropped the Hawks by a commanding 92-30 final score, improving to 3-0 this year, while the women got back to winning ways with an 81-41 victory.

In addition to four first-place finishes—in the 100-yard backstroke, 200-yard freestyle, 200-yard freestyle and medley relays—Kakimseit also rewrote the history books again. His 51.29 winning time in the 100-yard backstroke, more than 7.5 seconds faster than second-place teammate Zachary Taylor, marked the third time he lowered the school's all-time mark in the event in three meets this year.

The Panther women touched the wall first in 12 of 14 events, which included four first-place finishes for another rookie in Aizel Pusing and sophomore Emily Munayirji.

Three of Pusing's wins were individual events—the 50- and 100-yard breaststroke and the 200-yard IM—while Munayirji was part of the winning 200-yard freestyle and medley relays as well as the 100-yard backstroke and 200-yard freestyle. Pusing's classmate Ally Westendorf picked up a trio of wins, playing an integral role in both relays and winning the 50-yard freestyle over teammate Isabella Bonagura by 1.43 seconds.

The 'Cats are back in the pool next Friday, Nov. 10, as they face Mount St. Mary College and SUNY Delhi in tri-meet action beginning at 3 p.m.
