Newburgh, N.Y. - The Adelphi University swimming and diving team continued its success in the tri-meet format in the young season on Friday, with the men and women both sweeping Mount Saint Mary's College and SUNY Delhi in commanding fashion.
The men dropped host MSMC 149-20, while the women won by a tighter 116-77 margin. But against SUNY Delhi, Adelphi commanded the pool: The men won, 149-23, while the women sparkled in a 143-12 triumph.
In the sweep, Adelphi freshmen continued to shine individually, and the 'Cats won all four relays.
Ryan Kakimseit and
Aizel Pusing, each honored by the Northeast-10 Conference as the league's respective top rookies last week, won a combined five events, while classmate
Eric Slavin touched the wall first three times.
Sophomore
Emily Munayirji also won three events, including a 10-second triumph in the 1,000-yard freestyle, while
Natalia Brulinski,
Jake Chee-A-Tow,
Casey Fonseca,
Connor Singer and
Zachary Taylor rounded out the Panthers' individual winners on the afternoon.
For the men, Adelphi went 1-2 in many individual events. Chee-A-Tow edged teammate Kakimseit to win the 500-yard freestyle in 4:59.75, while Taylor placed first in the 100-yard freestyle ahead of Fonseca and
Kyton Lee. Fonseca and
Daniel Mattei were the top two in the 1,000-yard freestyle, and Singer picked up a five-second win over
Tim Kanaley in the 200-yard freestyle.
On the women's side, Brulinski clocked in at 2:24.93 to win the 200-yard IM, 5.4 seconds fasted from the MSMC's Grace Machugh in second.Â
The 'Cats return to the pool next Saturday at the United States Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, N.Y. for an 11 a.m. meet.Â
