Targets On Their Backs: Softball Ready to Defend Conference & Regional Titles in 2023

Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi University softball team will have the attention of the region in 2023.

Head Coach Carla Campagna's Panthers are ready to defend their NE10 Tournament and NCAA East Region crowns from last season with a competitive 2023 slate.

For the second year in a row, the Brown and Gold will open the regular season in the Carolinas, where Adelphi will play in a couple of weekend round-robin tournaments at Francis Marion University and Coker University. A mid-week visit to UNC Pembroke for four games will be sandwiched between those trips.

The setting then becomes Janet L. Ficke Field. A Mar. 14 doubleheader against The College of Staten Island will shed the curtain on Adelphi's home schedule.

Adelphi will play nine of its first 11 doubleheaders at home -- a stretch that will keep the Panthers mainly on their home field until mid-April.

A couple intriguing match-ups to circle right off the bat are an NE10 Championship re-match against Saint Anselm (Mar. 25) and a visit by Wilmington (Mar. 28), off their head-to-head meeting in last year's NCAA East Super Region final.

Besides the Carolina trip, the longest Adelphi will be taken away from its home facility is a four-day swing that takes the Panthers to Saint Michael's (Apr. 15), Franklin Pierce (Apr. 16) and Southern Connecticut (Apr. 18).

Upon their return, the Panthers conclude the regular season with a set of home conference doubleheaders against Pace (Apr. 25), Le Moyne (Apr. 28) and Saint Rose (Apr. 29).

Adelphi will aim to have the NE10 Tournament on its home field again, should the Panthers take hold of another NE10 regular-season title and the No. 1 seed. The NE10 Championship will get underway the weekend of May 4-6, with first-round competition at home sites on May 2.
