Belle Vernon, Pa. - The Adelphi University men's golf team opened its 2022-23 season with a tie for tenth place at the Vulcan Invitational, hosted by California University of Pennsylvania at Cedarbrook Golf Course.
The Panthers matched up with seventeen other groups in a two-day event, and posted their best two-round score since 2012 with 4-over 572.
Sophomore Mason Rivera carded a team-low 67 and sank five birdies on Day 2, leading towards a tie for 16th place that paced all Adelphi golfers.
Alec Ramos was a par or better golfer both days and finished in a tie for 25th place, after shooting a 1-under 70 and making par 12 times over his last 18 holes.
Senior newcomer Filip Wetterqvist capped off his Adelphi debut in a tie for 29th place, finishing only one stroke behind Ramos with a two-day score of 142.
Andrew Brunozzi and freshman Johnny Solani concluded tournament play with scores of 150 and 152, respectively.
The Panthers will travel next Monday and Tuesday (Sept. 12-13) to compete at the Granite State Opener at the Beaver Meadow Golf Club in Concord, N.H.
