Flushing, N.Y. - The Adelphi University men's tennis team took part in a stacked weekend of regional competition at the site of the U.S. Open -- the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center -- for the 2022 ITA Division II East Region Championships.

Coming off a highly-touted rookie campaign, Marko Jovanovic led the Panthers with a quarterfinal appearance in both the singles and doubles competitions.

As the No. 4 seed in the singles draw, Jovanovic won a pair of tiebreakers to reach the quarterfinal round, including a 10-5 tiebreak over the No. 6 seed, Manuel Righi of Le Moyne.

Alongside Gabriel Balestero in the doubles portion, Jovanovic lost no more than four games until the quarterfinals, where the pair fell 6-3, 6-4 to STAC's Tobias Fuerschuss and Don Vinz Lominoque.

In their first doubles tilt, Thomas Horsley and Thiago Negrao took care of STAC's Afik Harari and Sam Rekasch in the Round of 64 by an 8-4 scoreline.

Salomon Arce Lema, Henrique Souza and Horsley all won their opening singles matches, while Balestero got a bye and prevailed 6-0. 6-1 in the Round of 64. As unseeded players, Arce Lema and Horsley also played their next opponents -- both seeded -- to third-set tiebreakers.

As the Panthers traditionally play a full slate in the spring, Adelphi will wrap up its fall season on Friday (Sept. 30) at home against Farmingdale State College at 2 p.m.
