Garden City, N.Y. - Adelphi University skipper Bill Ianniciello kicked off his first recruiting period leading the Adelphi University baseball team by signing an impressive class of five high school players and two transfers who will suit up for the Panthers in 2023.

All seven commits hail from New York, with six of them playing high school ball on Long Island. The class features four right-handed pitchers, a shortstop, an outfielder and a potential two-way player who pitches and plays corner infield.

"We are very excited to welcome this group of highly talented and dedicated student-athletes to the Adelphi baseball program this fall," said Ianniciello. "They will add skill and depth across our roster and compete for playing time."

Ianniciello on Bohne: "L.J. has been a frontline player for two championship baseball programs in Mount Sinai High School and the East Coast Lumberjacks. A good athlete, he is a classic table-setter -- a selective, high-on-base-percentage hitter with good bat control who uses the entire field. He also has good foot speed and is a sound defender who can play all three outfield positions. L.J. could fill a "second leadoff hitter" role for us in the nine spot, who later projects as a leadoff guy. We see him becoming an offensive catalyst and solid all-around college ballplayer in our program."

Ianniciello on Carr: "Jack was a standout player for the Stony Brook School and the premier Long Island Titans Body Armor team who went to Stony Brook University as a legitimate two-way player -- pitcher and infielder. I feel he has the ability and makeup to be a conference starter for us on the mound. His repertoire features an upper-80's fastball and excellent breaking ball. Jack is a quiet, confident kid who I expect will help us win some big games."

Brendan Kenneally

Ianniciello on Kenneally: "Brendan is a solid student-athlete and our first commit from the highly-regarded Taconic Rangers club team program. He commands all of his pitches -- a mid-to-upper-80's fastball, as well as an effective slider and change-up -- and has been adding velocity, with good movement on each. We are pleased to have Brendan as a Panther and expect him to come in and compete for innings."

Jacob has the talent and drive to become a frontline position player or pitcher at our level. He hits with extra-base power, defends capably at third base and competes on the mound. We are eager to have Jacob join us in the fall."

Albert Ramos

Ianniciello on Ramos: "Albert is a player whose prospects at Adelphi we are particularly excited about. He has a prototype shortstop body and skills set. He is very polished defensively, with good range and a "plus" arm. Offensively, he has a good swing, with a fast-developing approach to hitting, and advanced base-running instincts. Overall, he shows high baseball acumen. With a still-young body, we believe that through focused strength and conditioning work and ongoing skills development, Albert can become a complete, high-end player for us."
 

Coleton Reitan

• Compiled 3-2 record with 53 strikeouts in 24.0 innings in 2021
• Also limited opposing hitters to a .195 batting average against

• Went 12-1 with five saves in three seasons of summer collegiate baseball
• Amassed 111 strikeouts and only allowed 63 hits in 83 summer innings pitched

Ianniciello on Reitan: "Coleton comes to Adelphi University to pursue his master's in Business Analytics, following his graduation from Wesleyan University with a degree in Economics. He had three very successful summers pitching for me in high-level summer collegiate baseball on Long Island. I expect him to be an immediate impact arm on our pitching staff who will help us win ballgames. Coleton is equally comfortable and effective as a starting pitcher or out of the bullpen in high-leverage situations. He is a high-character person who will add a strong and steady veteran presence to our staff and team."

Ianniciello on Tufo: "Michael is an excellent student-athlete who began to emerge as an effective right-hand pitcher late in his junior year. With a great hurler's frame at 6'3/190, we see potential for a meaningful leap in performance at our level of intercollegiate baseball through his continued hard work and focus. His pitch repertoire features an 83-85 mph fastball and a slider with late break that he is able to spot. We are very happy to add Michael to our program and pitching staff."
