Baseball Falls to Pace in Midweek Matchup, 7-2

Garden City, N.Y. – The Adelphi baseball team welcomed Pace to the friendly confines of William J. Bonomo Field on Tuesday afternoon for a standalone matchup.

Series History:

  • Adelphi (11-11, 7-6 NE10) is now 33-23 against Pace since March 2005.
  • The last meeting between the foes was a 3-2 Setter win in Garden City on March 16, 2025. John Carver went eight strong in that game, striking out eight, and Joe Pellegrino homered.

Highlights:

How It Happened:

  • Pace got on the board first, scoring one in the second inning after a pair of two-out hits.
  • In the bottom half, the Panthers responded. With Anthony Rigogliosi and Zach DeMilt on second and third (via a hit-by-pitch, fielder's choice and stolen base), Catuosco delivered a seeing-eye single to second base, scoring Rigogliosi and bringing home DeMilt to make it 2-1.
  • After a scoreless third, the Setters tied the game at two with a solo home run.
  • Pace took control in the fifth, scoring three runs on a pair of singles, a double and a triple.
  • In the sixth, Pace threatened again with runners in scoring position and one out, but Celentano entered and recorded two quick outs to escape trouble.
  • The Setter pitching staff shut down Adelphi over the final three innings. Pace added two more runs in the eighth en route to a 7-2 win.

Up Next:

  • Head coach Mike Gaffney and the Adelphi baseball team returns to the field on Friday at 12 p.m. to host Franklin Pierce in the first of two doubleheaders.
