Carver K's 12, Offense Scores 23 Runs in Baseball's Friday Sweep of Franklin Pierce

Garden City, N.Y. – The Adelphi baseball team took on Franklin Pierce in the first of two crucial Northeast 10 doubleheaders.


Series History:

  • Adelphi (13-11, 8-6 NE10) is now 16-26 against Franklin Pierce since May 2005. The last meetings between the two was a pair of Raven wins in Rindge, N.H. on April 13, 2025.


Game 1: Adelphi 13, Franklin Pierce 0
Highlights:

  • John Carver continued to be absolutely dominant, finishing with a line of 7.0 innings pitched, 12 strikeouts, three walks, one hit and no runs allowed. This marks the fourth consecutive game in which the right-hander struck out 10+ batters.
  • Evan Carway hit his first career home run in a 3-for-5 day that featured a double and a single.
  • Anthony Rigogliosi was 3-for-4 with two doubles, two RBIs and two runs scored in the nine hole
  • .Eight Panthers recorded an RBI with three (Zach DeMilt, Carway, Rigogliosi) driving in multiple.


How It Happened:

  • After Carver put down the Ravens one-two-three in the first inning, the Panthers jumped all over the Franklin Pierce starting pitcher, batting around and scoring eight runs.
  • DeMilt got the party started with a hit by pitch and Johnny Catuosco moved him over to third with a single to right. After Michael Robinson walked, Albert Ramos beat out an infield single, driving in one while Catuosco scored after the Raven second baseman threw the ball away.
  • Giancarlo Rengifo hit a sacrifice fly to center field in the next at-bat and the hits continued to flow.
  • Four singles from Carway, Erick Duignan, DeMilt and Catuosco, as well as a double from Bryan McCleary, led to four more runs and an 8-0 Adelphi lead.
  • In the bottom of the second, Carway extended the lead to 10-0 with his first career home run that sailed over the left-center field fence.
  • Carver continued to chug along, shutting down the Franklin Pierce offense.
  • Adelphi added to its lead in the sixth after Rigogliosi smoked an RBI double to right-center.
  • Catuosco drove in Adelphi's lucky 13th run on an RBI groundout in the top of the eighth and Cam LeTourneau shut the door on the Ravens to close out the 13-0 win.


Game 2: Adelphi 10, Franklin Pierce 5 (F/7)
Highlights:

  • Johnny Catuosco drove in a team-high three runs and scored two.
  • Zach DeMilt made two sparkling plays at third base and went 1-for-3 with two RBI as the leadoff man.
  • Colin Richardson threw three scoreless innings in relief and struck out one, earning his first career win.


How It Happened:

  • Adelphi once again got off to a fast start, taking the lead in the first inning.
  • A Catuosco walk and a Bryan McCleary double put two runners on for the Cats. With two outs, Albert Ramos roped a ball to the Franklin Pierce shortstop, who misplayed it, allowing two runs to score.
  • The Ravens got one back in the top of the second with a solo home run to left field, but Billy Kind limited the damage to keep a 2-1 lead.
  • In the bottom of the second, Adelphi once again had an offensive barrage, scoring five runs.
  • Matt Ryan, Erick Duignan and Anthony Rigogliosi loaded the bases with no one out for DeMilt, who drew an RBI walk.
  • Catuosco and Michael Robinson each singled and drove in two runs to put Adelphi up 7-1.
  • The Ravens came right back with some runs of their own. An RBI double, a sacrifice fly and an RBI groundout plated three runs to cut the Panthers' lead to 7-4.
  • Adelphi threatened in the bottom of the third, but could not capitalize with runners on and one out.
  • Richardson pitched three scoreless frames in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings. In the fifth, Adelphi was able to add to its lead.
  • Two walks and a hit by pitch set the table for Rigogliosi, who came through with an RBI single. DeMilt followed with an RBI single and Catuosco drove in the third run of the inning with an RBI fielder's choice.
  • With a 10-4 lead in the top of the seventh, Zach Rovner recorded the final three outs to complete the Friday sweep.


Up Next:

  • The Adelphi baseball team will be back at William J. Bonomo Field on Saturday afternoon for the second of two doubleheaders with Franklin Pierce. First pitch is set for 12 p.m.
