Brown, Quagliardi Announced as Finalists for NE10 Major Awards

6/7/2022 11:54:00 AM

Mansfield, Mass. - Three outstanding student-athletes have been named as finalists for three different awards presented by the Northeast-10 Conference at the End of the Year Awards Banquet, which will be held virtually again in 2022.

Of the 14 institutional nominees for both the Northeast-10 Conference Man and Woman of the Year awards, the lists have been narrowed down to three finalists each, as announced by the league office on Wednesday afternoon, and include Adelphi's Jackie Brown of the field hockey program.

The NE10 Man and Woman of the Year awards honor student-athletes for their excellence in competition, in the classroom and in the community. The Woman of the Year award winner will be forwarded to the NCAA for their National Woman of the Year award, serving as the NE10's nomination.

Each of the league's 14 member institutions nominated at least one student-athlete for each award and the 29 total nominations were released on May 18.

Brown has done a little bit of everything since attending Adelphi. Most recently, she was named a NFHCA First Team All-American and served as Co-Chair of the NE10's Student-Athlete Advisory Council, in addition to her duties as Adelphi SAAC President. She is a two-time team captain, but has not only led on the field, but in the community. Brown has taken part in numerous community activities, including events for Make-A-Wish, Island Harvest, Tunnel to Towers, Read Across America and visiting the Ronald McDonald House.

Brown was named a First Team All-Conference selection and is a multi-time All-American (Second Team in 2019).

Finalists for the NE10 Male and Female Scholar-Athletes of the Year awards this year represent six different schools and five different sports and includes Barbara Quagliardi of Adelphi women's tennis.

Quagliardi, the NE10 Elite 24 Award winner in women's tennis for 2021-22, helped lead Adelphi to a finalist finish in the NE10 Women's Tennis Championship this past fall. She is a two-time ITA Scholar-Athlete, two-time Arthur Ashe Sports Scholar and was the NE10 Sport Excellence Award winners in the 2020-21 season. Quagliardi was recently named Adelphi's Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year and is a five-time Dean's List student.

She is a three-time First Team All-Conference selection and earned Player of the Year honors in 2019-20. Quagliardi was named an ITA Division II All-American in doubles in 2019-20.

The announcement of award recipients will be made the night of Thursday, June 9, on the NE10's YouTube page.
