East Meadow, N.Y. - It was a thrilling three days of swimming and diving action as the Adelphi men's and women's programs competed at the annual ECAC Winter Championships at the Nassau Aquatic Center over the weekend.
In total between the men's and women's programs, the Panthers totaled 54 personal bests with 30 season-highs and five new program records.
Rookie
Connor Singer was responsible for two individual records in the 100 and 200 breaststroke, respectively while joining
Cooper Rivers,
Brian Klotsche and
Daniel Dalrymple in the 200 and 400 medley relays that also erased standing marks on the men's side. In total, Singer's feats totaled a team-leading 58 points, which was helped by a fifth place showing in the 200 breaststroke finals.
The 200 men's medley relay was a decade old, previously held by Corey McKee, Michael Mayer, Zachary Terzano and Steven Gromling who swam 1:36.23 at the 2012 Northeast-10 Conference Championship. Over the weekend, the aforementioned quartet put up a time of 1:35.58, just .03 seconds off the top time from the NE10 this weekend. In the 400 medley, the same four Panthers took down the 2019 record from Daniel Lee, Jack Wheeler, Zack Vreeland and Eian McKeon (3:31.85), in the fastest time in the conference thus far at 3:28.52.
Rivers was second to Singer in points through the weekend, culminating in 46 with two top-10 finishes in the finals of the 200 and 400 individual medley. In the latter, he landed a time of 4:07.85 which was two seconds better than Michael Mayer's time from 2013 (4:09.56) to break his first record this season.
Timothy Yeung was responsible for a handful of points - 23 - with the help of a season-best time of 17:00.66 in the 1650 freestyle finals.
On the women's side,
Emily Munayirji swam four lifetime bests, including the fourth best time in the conference this season in the 1650 freestyle event where she placed 17th in a time of 18:29.98.
Skyler Nenadich, who won last year's one meter diving event and was named Diver of the Meet, contributed 31 points with a ninth place finish overall in the three-meter event.
Notching three or more personal bests were Klotsche,
Kyton Lee,
Daniel Mattei,
Delaney Noel,
Zachary Taylor,
Shannon Pepe,
Mackenzie Pina,
Justin Coronado,
Mauricio Fuentes Castillo and
Anjali Ramsaroop.
Adelphi will return for dual meet action to their home lanes on Friday, Dec. 9 when they host Queensborough Community College at 3:00 p.m.
