Apicella Captures NE10 Player and Rookie of the Year Awards

11/2/2022 12:00:00 PM

Mansfield, Mass. - For the first time in league history, the NE10 Women's Soccer Player and Rookie of the Year will hail from Adelphi University in the same season, with freshman superstar Madison Apicella laying claim to both honors in 2022.

Apicella becomes just the second player in NE10 history to win NE10 Player and Rookie of the Year accolades in the same year, joining Quinnipiac's Sharon Polastry back in 1994.

She is also the third NE10 Women's Soccer Player of the Year (Laura Gomez, 2015; Morgan Santoro, 2016) all-time at Adelphi and accompanies Mia York in 2017 as the only two Panthers to be named NE10 Rookie of the Year.

For much of this season, Apicella -- an NE10 First Team All-Conference and All-Rookie Team performer -- led the NE10 in all three scoring categories.

Over her first eleven collegiate starts, Apicella registered at least a point in eight of those contests. She concluded the regular season with 21 points (7 g, 7 a) -- the most for any Adelphi women's soccer player since Kerianne Scorce in 2018.

A pair of graduate transfers in Alexa Mihale and Hannah Franco earned NE10 First Team All-Conference plaudits, as well.

Mihale controls the action in the midfield and has even found the scoresheet a few times, to the tune of three goals. Her four assists currently rank among the Top 10 leaders in the conference in that category.

Upon Franco's arrival to Adelphi, the one-time forward made the switch to fullback and helped lock down a unit that allowed the third-fewest goals in the NE10 in the regular season with 16.

Fellow graduate transfer Victoria Colatosti drives the Adelphi attack forward with Apicella and landed a spot on the NE10 All-Conference Second Team.

A pure striker at her position, Colatosti has scored a team-best three game-winners in 2022, as part of her team-high-tying seven-goal campaign.

Freshman midfielder Dylann Trahey found herself on the NE10 All-Conference Third Team and All-Rookie Team.

Trahey has seen action in all 17 games thus far for the Panthers and has two goals and two assists to her credit. Just last Sunday, Trahey fed Mihale for the game's opening goal against Bentley and played a key role in procuring the team's first postseason victory in five years.

Adelphi's postseason venture continues tomorrow (Nov. 3) with a long-awaited re-match at Franklin Pierce University n the semifinals of the 2022 NE10 Championship at 5:30 p.m. Earlier this year, the Ravens defeated the Panthers 1-0 at Motamed Field, on the strength of an 88th-minute goal.
