Women's Soccer Takes Down No. 23 Saint Michael's on Senior Day, 2-0

Garden City, N.Y. – Head coach Brooke DeRosa and the Adelphi women's soccer team returned home to Motamed Field on Saturday morning for an important conference clash with No. 23 Saint Michael's.

Series History:

  • Adelphi (5-4-1, 2-3-0 NE10) moves to 14-2-1 against Saint Michael's since September 2009, snapping a two-game losing streak against the Purple Knights that dated back to 2024. The last matchup was a 3-0 Saint Michael's victory on October 25, 2025, in Colchester.

Highlights:

  • Kayleigh Goodrich scored her league-high 14th goal of the season. It was also her fourth game-winning goal of the year.
  • Sarah Winnegar scored her first career goal in the win, a left-footed strike from just inside the box.
  • Bethany Solari tallied two assists.
  • Dani Perugini made her first career start and recorded the first assist of her career on Goodrich's goal.
  • Maddy Catalanotti made three saves and earned her second shutout of 2026.

How It Happened:

  • Saint Michael's recorded the first shot of the game at the two-minute mark, but early on, both teams shared possession.
  • The Purple Knights held an early edge in shots, but that changed when Adelphi scored on its first attempt in the 18th minute.
  • Solari deked a defender at midfield and sent the ball down the sideline to Perugini. The senior took a few dribbles before sending a perfect pass beyond the reach of the defenders and to the foot of Goodrich, who put the ball in the back of the net.
  • With the Motamed crowd on its feet, the Panthers continued to push forward offensively.
  • Solari again had the ball at midfield before passing it to Winnegar. The Northport native took the ball into the box and fired a shot over the unsuspecting keeper to give Adelphi a 2-0 lead.
  • The Panthers held their two-goal lead heading into the break.
  • Goodrich came right out of the half looking for a brace, but her shot was saved by the Saint Michael's keeper.
  • Playing with the lead, Adelphi controlled possession more and no longer needed to look for runs down the field.
  • The Purple Knights had a few chances on goal, but all were stopped by Catalanotti.
  • Adelphi played nearly perfect defense in the final minutes and held Saint Michael's scoreless, handing the Purple Knights their first loss of the season.

Up Next:

  • The Adelphi women's soccer team will be back on the pitch Wednesday at 12 p.m. to host Gannon.
