Mansfield, Mass. - In arguably one of the most expected results of the 2022-23 women's tennis season, Adelphi University freshman standout Sanne Selmer Gilje was named the NE10 Rookie of the Year on Thursday.

Selmer Gilje made her collegiate debut at the ITA East Region Championships, where she succeeded in capturing the program's first singles championship.

Despite missing nearly a full month to open the year, Selmer Gilje finished the regular season with a stellar 11-3 singles record -- including a 4-1 mark in league play.

After losing her conference singles opener to NE10 Player of the Year Magdalena Hubickova, Selmer Gilje won her next four contests in straight sets.

In addition to being labeled NE10 Second Team All-Conference and earning All-Rookie Team accolades, Selmer Gilje is the program's first NE10 Rookie of the Year since Stefani Lineva in 2014.

Julia Kielan picked up her second career NE10 First Team All-Conference singles honor at the No. 5 flight.

Kielan led the Brown and Gold with a 7-1 record against NE10 opposition in 2022-23. Until the last match of the regular season, Kielan was undefeated in NE10 singles matches at 7-0, winning all but two in straight sets.

Jenelle Downer started a career-best seven matches this fall and captured a spot on the NE10 All-Conference Third Team, following a spectacular 5-1 finish in NE10 singles contests.

Downer's recognition came at No. 6 singles, where she lost only a combined two games in prevailing efforts on the road at Saint Michael's and Saint Anselm.

The Panthers are back in action tomorrow (Oct. 21) with a 2 p.m. first serve at Southern New Hampshire University, in an NE10 Tournament semifinal contest.
