Swim & Dive Takes on Saint Rose, Southern Connecticut

New Haven, Conn. - After health and safety protocols canceled the second meet of 2022, Adelphi University swimming and diving returned to the lanes at Southern Connecticut State University to take on the Owls and the College of Saint Rose in head-to-head Northeast-10 Conference action. 

The Owls, who stand as the defending women's NE10 champions, scored better than both the Panthers and Golden Knights, and on the men's side, Adelphi topped Saint Rose. 

Rachel Kuenzler bested the field in the 100 yard backstroke event, swimming .02 faster than Ella Marzec of SCSU. Her time of 1:01.62 sets a new season-best mark and falls .02 off her personal best time of 59.25 in the specialty, which she achieved at the 2020 NE10 Championship meet. 

From the rookies, Ruby Haberman posted a new personal-best time in the 50 freestyle race (28.51) and Delaney Noel was responsible for a time of 1:01.52 in her leg of the 400 yard freestyle relay to set a new career-mark, helping the Panthers finish fourth in the event. 

Ashleigh Gault finished third in the 1000 freestyle with a time of 11:51.01, nearly five seconds faster than the next competitor from Saint Rose. 

Skyler Nenadich continues to impress on the boards, taking first in the one and three meter diving events. She scored more than 20 points higher than the next competitor in both sessions, finishing with 222.53 and 220.57, respectively. 

On the men's side, Cooper Rivers and Casey Fonseca placed second and fourth, respectively, in the 200 IM race, with the latter posting a new season-best time in the specialty. 

Jason Rosen, despite a first place time in the 100 butterfly race, fell .88 seconds short of his career-best, which he swam at the last NE10 Championship meet. where he placed fourth. Timothy Yeung's time of 2:22.67 was good enough for a second place showing in the 200 breaststroke which is only two seconds off his personal-best. 

The teams are scheduled to compete next at the 2022 NE10 Championships on Thursday, Feb. 17 through Sunday, Feb. 20 With the date change, the championship will move to the Hutchinson Natatorium on the campus of Southern Connecticut State University.  The Swimming & Diving Championships were originally scheduled at the Sports & Recreation Center at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) from Thursday, Feb. 3 through Sunday, Feb. 6.
