Pembroke, N.C. - Adelphi University baseball third baseman
Matt Alifano continues to be recognized for his outstanding sophomore campaign.
Last Wednesday, Alifano was named an NCBWA All-America Honorable Mention, in addition to a D2CCA All-Region first-team selection.
Only a week later, he was honored on the ABCA All-Region First Team.
Alifano becomes the sixth player in the program's history to be honored as an NCBWA All-American. He joins the company of
Ed Baram (2019),
Richard Mejia (2014),
Dillon McNamara (2013),
Mike Myers (2007) and
Mike Testani (2007)
The 2021 NE10 Southwest Division Rookie Hitter of the Year, Alifano flirted with a .400 average and ultimately hit .394 on the season -- the highest batting average by any Adelphi player since 2014.
He finished the year as the No. 2 hits leader in the NE10 and ranked among the Top 10 in the conference in every major hitting category.
Additionally, Alifano accounted for a team-leading 10 two-out RBIs, while batting .500 (17-of-34) with runners in scoring position and .419 (13-of-31) with two outs.
At one point, he homered four times in three contests and reeled off a 14-game hitting streak during that stretch, which included eight multi-hit games.
Alifano will also have an opportunity at D2CCA and ABCA All-America honors, on the heels of his All-Region first-team citation.
