Garden City, N.Y. - The 2019-20 season marked our 10th year in the NE10, and to celebrate that milestone, the Adelphi University Department of Athletics is looking back on some of its most iconic moments and accomplishments with the conference.
At Adelphi, the high jump and
Victoria Major will be forever synonymous.
To date, Major owns the school's indoor and outdoor records for the high jump and still stands as the NE10's indoor record-holder in the event. She posted a remarkable 18 first-place finishes in the high jump in three seasons of competition.
She made quite a first impression, too. Her first collegiate high jump in December 2016 at the Elm City Challenge turned in an NCAA provisional qualifying mark and a new school record. The rest was history.
Major was a four-time NE10 high jump champion in her career and earned NE10 Field Athlete Rookie of the Year accolades, while twice qualifying for both the NCAA Division II Indoor and Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
Speaking of, Major's debuts at the national indoor and outdoor championships in 2017 are ones to recall.
After eclipsing a then-conference-record 1.67 meters at the NE10 Indoor Championships, Major earned her rightful place among a field of 16 high jumpers vying for a national championship.
She ultimately finished 11th out of 16 finalists, but took on the titles of top freshman in the event and USTFCCCA Second Team All-American.
Then, in the spring, Major returned to the national stage, where she captured a podium finish with a fourth-place height of 1.74 meters on her final run and an All-America first-team nod in the process.
As fierce a jumper as Major was, she also excelled on the track.
Major twice won gold at the NE10 Outdoor Championships in the 400-meter dash and 4x400-meter relay and received USTFCCCA All-Region honors in both events.
She concluded her collegiate tenure as a three-time All-American and All-Region performer, in addition to twice landing on the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team and earning NE10 Academic All-Conference recognition in 2018-19.
